Hello doll lovers!! Today I am doing a small rant post because I get very aggravated, not just with dolls but other items I find when thrifting. I do not understand why people donate some of the items they donate. Do not get me wrong there are items I have found that if the people would have gotten rid of I would have been sad. Those items are able to be fixed and that is ok if you want to donate/sell an item that can be fixed. I have also seen photographs, trophies and things children made, which really surprises me a lot and makes me a little sad.
I come up on clothes or shoes all the time that have stains that are permanent, rips that can not be sown or they are in such bad shape why would you want to wear them or put them on your child? Same thing goes for dolls, I find them all the time with problems you can not fix easily or at all. A prime example is the mermaid doll form a couple of weeks ago, her hand was chewed, what can you do to fix that? Nothing, it can't be fixed unless you put her head on a different body and guess what? Then she isn't a mermaid, also her tail had mold on it (I'm sure from play) so why was it donated? I also find A LOT of dolls with bad hair cuts (I know you can reroot but I do not have that skill) to me if child has cut the dolls hair it should be trashed not donated. I also find a lot of monster high and ever after high dolls that do not have their hands or limbs (why on earth did mattel make dolls like that in the first place, I digress that is another post all to it's self) yes you could try to find the limbs to fix the doll but by the time you do that there is a lot of money spent and if you do not collect that is not a good thing. Also the dolls that are written on with marker, sometimes it comes off, sometimes it is stuck in the vinyl, why even donate it??
Is because we live in a world now where it is frowned upon to trash items you can't use. They tell you reuse recycle but there is a point when the item can not be used anymore. I throw away every doll that has chew marks or hair cuts or marks I can't get off the body cause I am not donating that. I also throw away clothing and shoes of mine or my kids that have been worn a lot and have holes and stains because what is the point? If you wouldn't use it or wear it or play with it, why would anyone else?
