Hello doll lovers!! This is one of my favorite makeovers I have done, and it is because of her curly hair. I have been wanting to makeover a curly hair doll to see if I could do it without her looking like a frizz monster. I ended up doing just fine and was proud of myself. I love her, wish she would have came with her dress but I think her outfit goes with her jewelry really well.
This is the 1997 Illusion Barbie Masquerade Gala doll, she came in a beautiful black and white ball gown and a handheld mask. I really loved her hair and was hoping I could fix it, she came in a box of dolls I purchased for 7.99 (there was quite a few collector dolls in that box). I put her in the this outfit cause I thought it matched her necklace and earrings.
I started off by washing her like I normally do (instructions will be at the bottom of the post). Then I put conditioner on her hair and let it set for 20 min., I then combed (with a wide tooth comb) every individual curl with the conditioner still in her hair. I DID NOT brush it at all. I rinsed out the conditioner and let her air dry, her curls are now tamed and not fizzy at all. She is a very pretty doll maybe one day I can find her a pretty gown to wear!
(If you are wondering how I clean my dolls I use dish soap first then do a wash with some baking soda, I use a tooth brush for both of these steps. I clean their hair with dish soap too and use conditioner that I let set for about 10 min then comb through. For really damaged hair I use a boil wash, which is just some boiling water and you dunk their hair in or can let them set for a bit. All of my cleaning tips came from a YouTube channel called "a thousand splendid dolls" I love their channel and she has so many helpful tutorials. This is how I clean all the dolls and ponies I do restorations on.)
