These dolls were not in that bad of shape, except for poor barbie she has the spotty legs that happen over time due to the plastic breaking down. I had not heard of the rocker barbie doing that but obviously she does. The only other problem was their hair was dry and Dana's was matted badly.
I washed their hair and bodies like always (instructions at bottom) but this time I left the conditioner on their hair longer and I gave them a boil wash. Dana's hair is still a little dry on the ends but so much better than when we started. Barbies turned out great!
I was lucky to have found Dana's outfit on Jem at the store so she was ready to go, but Barbie was wearing a barbie and the beat midge outfit so she needed clothes. Of course I do not have her orignial outfit (I did at one time but sold it, now I regret it big time!!) so it just happens that I had this rockers fashion pack dress and I love it (this is one of my fav older outfits so glad I can put it on a doll now).
These girls turned out great, of course they have their flaws and so do their clothing but they cleaned up nicely. I was very happy with Dana's hair poor thing looked awful after I too her hair out of the braid. I think they were stored in an attic, that usually happens to hair that is stored in those types of conditions. I hope to find the rest of the rockers in my thrifting adventures in the future.
(If you are wondering how I clean my dolls I use dish soap first then do a wash with some baking soda, I use a tooth brush for both of these steps. I clean their hair with dish soap too and use conditioner that I let set for about 10 min then comb through. For really damaged hair I use a boil wash, which is just some boiling water and you dunk their hair in or can let them set for a bit. All of my cleaning tips came from a YouTube channel called "a thousand splendid dolls" I love their channel and she has so many helpful tutorials. This is how I clean all the dolls and ponies I do restorations on.)
